When did the term 'gay' become mainly refereed to males? Or has it always been ?
I thought 'gay' covered women and men but lesbian was just female |
homosexual = both men and women
lesbian = just women
gay = just male but lately it's easier to say "gay" than "homosexual" so it looks like it will cover both. actually, it isn't exactly unheard of for the male term to dominate in a language, just look at a language that has words w/ genders (let's say spanish, but could be any). el is he. ella is she. ella is they femimine (all the subjects are female). ellos is they masculine (all the subject are male). but if you want to say they (with it being a mixed group) you just use ellos (the male word). isn't language interesting? (and sexist at times :P). |
What do you think about people who use gay insults to the players or the supporters of the other team? In many stadiums, football players, managers or referees are called names: many of which names referring to their allegedly being gay.
Those insults are mouthed by fans who can be fathers with their guyren, in a general indifference.
Have you any opinion about that? |
| It's so typical of straight males...I understand it is an insult and used lightly, not meant to insult gay people, but I am concerned that it has become an insult. The fact that being gay is seen as bad is not good at all. Making fun of someone's sexual orientation, whether joke or not, is unacceptable should not be tolerated. |
